Northeast Louisiana artist Alex J has been passionate about art his entire life. Alex grew up in the village of Bonita surrounded by lakes, crops and wildlife.
"Every part of my community has been the inspiration behind several of my paintings and has given me the drive to continue perfecting my craft."
Alex grew up passionate about sports, football being #1 and his artistic talents were put on hold. He didn't take his artistry to the next level until his senior year of college at Northwestern State University. Upon his newfound love for his art, he began perfecting his techniques day by day through trial and error. Alex has also done much research and taught himself more advanced methods as he continues to grow into a seasoned artist. He slowly started showcasing his work to friends and family first and now his presence on social media is rapidly growing. Alex J has also been featured in the Jockies Art Gallery in Natchitoches, Louisiana, being named the Artist of the Month consecutively.
Alex J is definitely a Louisiana artist to watch closely! His process is completely spontaneous and organic. His art speaks of places and events unseen but those that are comforting and familiar. Artist that have influenced him include: Jean-Michel Basquiat and Reggie Ford.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
"My paintings come from the heart. My intent is to create art that stirs the soul and connects us to what lies beyond our sight. I feel my skills continue to expand as I learn something new about art each and everyday. I've been told by many my art emits a special flavor and feeling that is both spiritual and moving."
